The Mission of the League of Humane Voters®
(LOHV) is to create, unite, and
strengthen local political action committees, which work to enact
animal-friendly legislation and elect candidates for public office who
will use their votes and influence for animal protection. We LOHV Animals... And We Vote!

Candidate
Questionnaire on Humane Legislation
The State primary election is in a few short
weeks, on August 17th. You can find out how the candidates in your
district running for the House of Representatives and the State Senate
feel about animal welfare issues and humane legislation.
The
League of Humane Voters and the Federation of Animal Care and Control
Agencies has asked all candidates running in the state primary to
complete a questionnaire on such topics as low cost spay and neuter
legislation, limits on continuous chaining of dogs, the humane
treatment of livestock and more.
We had
over 100 responses from candidates and almost every district is
represented. This is a great opportunity to become informed about those
candidates most likely to support humane legislation if elected.
the original questionnaire (54KB PDF), which gives a brief
description of each of the issues presented to the candidates. Click
here to view the candidate responses (5,063KB PDF, large file
please be patient). Find your district on the table of legislative
districts. All the candidates in each district who responded to the
questionnaire are listed. Click on the district title to view the
individual responses (ex. “LEGISLATIVE DISTRICT 3”).

your district number click here.
In
order to make a difference in the treatment of animals in Washington
State we must be able to influence the political process. Being an
informed voter is one way to do that. However, just as importantly we
need to be able to tell legislators in each district that there are
many of their constituents who feel that humane treatment of animals is
fundamentally important to them. The League of Humane Voters is
building a voter database and we need you as a member in order to make
a difference. Your commitment is simply to stay informed through our
website on the issues affecting the treatment of animals. Please sign
up today by e-mailing mary@lohv.org.
Coming
soon!
Throughout the 2011 legislative session, we
will keep you informed on the key bills introduced that year.
We will
have voting records for the incumbent legislators, on humane
legislation from 2007/2008 and 2009/2010 legislative sessions, prior to
the November election.
